Chess Explorer

Chess for kids, from first move to real challenge

A rival that climbs ten levels as your child improves, a coach whose hints are always optional, and live two-player games when they want to face a friend.

A rival that grows with your child

Chess Explorer starts gentle, at the level of a first checkmate, and climbs through ten difficulty steps as your child gets stronger. Nobody gets stuck against an opponent who is too hard or bored by one who is too easy.

Hints your child can follow or skip

Math, the coach, can point out when a piece is in danger or a checkmate is on the board, but every hint is just a suggestion. Your child decides whether to use it and makes the move themselves, so they learn to spot threats on their own.

Live Versus, two players

When your child wants a human opponent, Versus puts two players head to head on two devices, in real time. Great for a sibling, a friend or a parent. Versus is just for fun: it does not touch the learning ladder or the parent report.

What is inside

  • Ten adaptive bot levels
  • Optional coach hints, never forced moves
  • Live two-player Versus on two devices
  • No timers or pressure
  • One of six worlds in NumFox
Does my child need to know chess already?

No. The bot starts at the level of a first checkmate and climbs only as your child improves, so beginners and stronger players both get a fair game.

Can two kids play each other?

Yes. Live Versus pairs two players on two devices in real time, in person. It is meant for fun and does not affect the learning ladder or the mastery report.

Is chess included with NumFox?

Yes. Chess is one of the six worlds, included in every plan along with math, words, reading, grammar and numbers.
